Valley of the Moon or Cejar Lagoon

Visit to the Valley of the Moon: The Valle de la Luna stretches about 15 kilometers west of San Pedro de Atacama between the Atacama Desert and the Andes. It is one of the most famous excursion destinations in northern Chile and one of the driest areas on earth. In some places it has not rained for over 100 years. The valley owes its name Moon Valley to its appearance, which is reminiscent of the surface of the moon. The valley is at its most beautiful at sunset, when the evening sun illuminates the sand crystals and minerals in golden colors.

**Cejar Lagoon Laguna Cejar is located at the northern end of the Salar de Atacama salt lake. This lake has a salt content of more than 40%, allowing bathers to swim on the surface. Even though the temperature of the lake is only around 10 degrees, it is worth the effort to go into the lake and experience the “floating effect” - so be sure to pack your swimsuit and float on the surface of the water like in the Dead Sea.

Return to San Pedro after sunset. (F/LB)
