Your Travel Experience with chilepro
Day 1
Transfer from Puerto Maldonado to the Explorers InnLodge
You arrive at Puerto Maldonado airport and are welcomed by the Explorers Inn team. You will then go to the city office, where you can repack your luggage (smaller numbered bags will be provided) and store your main luggage until your return.
You will then drive to the Puerto Tambopata landing stage, from where you are taken to the lodge by boat on the Madre de Dios River (approx. 3 hours).
You are provided with a lunch box during the trip. During a short stop at the control tower, you are registered for the Amazon region. If you wish, you can have a real Tambopata stamp put in your passport as a souvenir.
On arrival at the lodge, you will be welcomed by the staff and provided with lots of great recommendations and information so that you can fully enjoy your stay.
At night you will return to the boat after a sumptuous dinner to watch the caimans at night as they hunt or rest on the sandbanks.
Day 2
Observation tower on the Amazon region
After breakfast, today's walk takes you about 5.5 km through the Amazon at a fast pace. An extraordinary soundscape accompanies you on your way and you may even spot a special bird or frog or two. But there isn't much time, because the giant otters have their regular routines and so as soon as you arrive at Lake Cocococha, you will board the rowing boat and paddle through the lake.
In the afternoon, you will take a more relaxed approach and visit a local fruit farm near the lodge, where you can enjoy fresh fruit and learn about the cultivation and properties of everything from avodacos to pineapples. This "Chakra" belongs to the economic development company "La Torre" and gives us an insight into the Peruvian world of natural products from the region.
In the evening, you will also be spoiled with a 3-course menu and typical local dishes.
Day 3
Visit to the salt lick
The last day also starts early - today you travel 10 minutes by boat and walk another 5 minutes through the Amazon to the salt lick, where you can watch the wild activity of many different species of parrots at breakfast in the early morning. There is a salt lick to both your right and left and it is always exciting to see which side the birds choose. The fact is, they all use the same side and you get a great view up close.
After this activity, you walk back to the lodge along one of the private jungle trails and may spot one or two animals or plants along the way.
If you still have energy left, you can visit the 42-metre-high observation tower with the group and enjoy a unique view over the Amazon and a fantastic sunset from there. From this angle, the flora and fauna look completely different and you can also observe macaws, parrots, toucans and monkeys from a bird's eye view.
After dinner, things get adventurous once again. Together with the tour guide, you take a night walk through the jungle and lie in wait to observe various unique insects, amphibians, owls and perhaps other species.
Day 4
Transfer to Puerto Maldonado
Early in the morning you can enjoy your breakfast in the beautiful lodge before you start your journey home and make your way back to Lima/Cusco.
