Sierra Negra Volcano Tour
Today is dedicated to the volcanic landscape of Isabela Island. It was formed by five adjacent shield volcanoes, whose lava flows have united to form a land mass. You will drive in a group of max. 16 persons to the highlands and climb up to the volcano Sierra Negra. This is not the highest volcano with 1,200 meters, but with a crater diameter of about 9 kilometers it has the second largest volcanic cone on earth.
Your hike will take you along the eastern rim to a rest area, from which you can enjoy the view of the impressive surrounding landscape in good weather conditions. Continue for about 1.5 hours to the neighboring volcano Chico. After a short rest, you will walk back to the crater of Sierra Negra volcano, where you will have a short break and you can consume your lunch box. In the early afternoon you will return to the small port town of Puerto Villamil.
The solar radiation is extremely high, so you should definitely take sunscreen, hat and 2L drinking water!
